Relationship To Strategic Plan:
Goal 2 - Responsive City Government supporting a diverse and viable economy.
Goal 4 - A highly desirable place to live, work and recreate.
Executive Summary:
Provide an overview of how the partnership between City of Fayetteville and Fayetteville Woodpeckers is achieving great impacts in the community.
Background:
The Houston Astros affiliate Fayetteville Woodpeckers entered into agreement with the City of Fayetteville in December 2016, ushering in an historic and transformational project in the City’s downtown corridor. Today they operate a Class A minor league baseball team in City owned and now named SEGRA Stadium. The strong partnership between the two entities is better today than it has ever been.
Issues/Analysis:
Today’s presentation will highlight some of the milestone accomplishments since the Woodpeckers inaugural 2019 season, what is happening this 2024 season, and a look ahead to some of the exciting things to come.
The Woodpeckers average over 200,000 attendees per season and will celebrate their one millionth fan this summer. Twenty-eight former players have now played in Major League Baseball already.
Minor league baseball continues to impact the community and makes a huge economic impact on the local economy.
The future looks very promising as we emerge from pandemic impacts and create deeper roots and ties to Fayetteville.
