Relationship To Strategic Plan:

Desirable Place to Live, Work and Recreate

Executive Summary:

NCGS §160A-299 gives authority and procedures for the City to close a city street or alley.  The City of Fayetteville has received a petition to close Calhoun Street to better enhance future plans to develop the North Carolina Civil War & Reconstruction History Center located in the surrounding area. The street to be closed is unopened and has never been constructed. Closing the street will not deny access to any property owners.  The first step in the process dictated by NCGS§160A-299 is to have a resolution signed granting the public hearing to consider the closing.  Staff would like to set the public hearing for August 14, 2023 which would allow the statutory procedures to be followed.  A resolution and map of the proposed closing are attached for reference.
