Relationship To Strategic Plan:

Goal 4 - Desirable Place to Live, Work, and Recreate

Executive Summary:

The Linear Park Corporation is a non-profit City of Fayetteville organization which was established to work collaboratively with the City of Fayetteville and Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation on the Harry F. Shaw Linear Park Trail project.

The Harry F. Shaw Linear Park Trail is a pathway that winds along Cross Creek from Ray Avenue to the Cape Fear River.

Background:

The Linear Park Trail, now called the Harry F. Shaw Linear Park Trail, is a scenic greenway that winds through downtown Fayetteville, following the natural course of the creek and connecting key community landmarks. Originally developed to provide safe, accessible recreational space, the trail invites walkers, runners, cyclists, and nature enthusiasts to experience the city’s natural beauty within an urban setting.

Beyond recreation, the trail serves as an important link in Fayetteville’s broader network of greenways and parks, strengthening connections between neighborhoods, cultural destinations, and outdoor spaces. Over the years, strong community vision and support of community leaders, including the late Harry F. Shaw, have played a vital role in its development and ongoing preservation, helping transform the trail into a valued resource for both residents and visitors.
