Relationship To Strategic Plan:
Goal IV: Desirable Place to Live, Work and Recreate.
Executive Summary:
City Council asked Airport Commission to present its fiscal year 2025 report outlining recent, current & future projects, passenger activity, and aviation forecast. One major project was the start of federal required Master Plan Update describing development plans to meet future aviation demand assisting the airport with prioritizing projects.
Background:
In CY25, the airport received over $3 million in NCDOT Division of Aviation and Federal Aviation Administration grants for capital investments.
Issues/Analysis:
The legacy domestic routes and Low Cost Carriers are predicting a flat growth in 2026, due to fleet replacement with new orders and minimal net new aircraft into the existing fleet. Gate availability for regional gates throughout the country are strained due to mainline gate growth. Airport leadership is aggressively working with our air service development consultant to develop competitive incentive opportunities for new route destinations, up-gauged equipment and increased frequency.
