Executive Summary:
The Council is asked to approve award of, and authorize the execution of a contract for Microsurfacing Various Streets 2023. The lowest responsive, responsible bidder, Slurry Pavers, Inc. is recommended.
Background:
The Microsurfacing Various Street 2023 project primarily consists of Microsurfacing application to 20 streets (approximately 3.46 miles).
The project will include various construction phases including:
1. Cleaning the entire street to remove all surface dirt particles
2. Filling all cracks with joint seal across the entire street
3. Placement of a new Microsurfacing layer over the entire street
The project was advertised for bids to be opened on February 08, 2023.
Bidders:
* Slurry Pavers, Inc. $305,450.00
* Boxley Material Company $325,294.00
Issues/Analysis:
Microsurfacing maintenance approach is effective in fixing roads with overall fair-good condition experiencing low-moderate distresses. Microsurfacing provides a tough, uniform, black color and a smooth surface layer over aged deteriorated road pavements. This advanced approach is ideal for prolonging the service life of pavement, preventing water intrusion, fixing surface irregularities and for restoring surface texture, skid resistance and aesthetic appeal. Microsurfacing treatment is made of unique blend of high-quality ingredients (mixture of polymer modified emulsified asphalt with finely crushed stone).
Streets included on this list to receive Microsurfacing Treatment do not warrant traditional resurfacing at this time.
