Executive Summary:
NCDOT conducted a review of the speed limit along Century Circle (State Road 1104) at the request of a county commissioner and in reviewing the road as part of the I-295 construction. After review, NCDOT is recommending the speed limit of 55 mph be repealed along Century Circle, between Strickland Bridge Road and Stoney Point Road. Should the 55 mph speed limit ordinance be repealed, the statutory speed limit of 35 mph would take effect. NCDOT is requesting City Council to concur with the repeal of the 55 mph speed limit ordinance.
Background:
A county commissioner has requested NCDOT review the speed limit along Century Circle. From that review as well as from reviewing the road as part of the I-295 construction, NCDOT contacted city staff on 3/20/2025 via e-mail to request the municipal certificate for the speed limit repeal to be completed. NCDOT is recommending the speed limit of 55 mph be repealed and the statutory speed limit of 35 mph to take effect between Strickland Bridge Road and Stoney Point Road.
