Executive Summary:
The Community Police Advisory Board (CPAB) charter was adopted by City Council on August 23, 2021. The Board has struggled to an identity and ways to help the community. Staff recommends renaming CPAB to Community Public Safety Advisory Board to reflect the City’s priority of public safety involving the Police Department, Fire Department, and Office of Community Safety, as well as updating the charter that encompasses those objectives.
Background:
The Community Police Advisory Board charter was adopted by City Council on August 23, 2021. The CPAB meets monthly and has had a high turner-over of members. The Chairman, Dr. Gregory Perkins, has reached out to staff to suggest an update to the charter that allows the CPAB to have a broader scope regarding public safety. The City Council Policy Committee reviewed the staff recommended charter updates on April 16, 2026, and approved the recommendations to come to City Council.
