Relationship To Strategic Plan:

Goal I: Safe and Secure Community

Objective 1.2: To ensure traffic and pedestrian safety

Executive Summary:

Council is asked to adopt a resolution to authorize Dundee Road modification and a municipal agreement with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) for the maintenance of Dundee Road after construction.

Background:

NCDOT plans to install a traffic signal with pedestrian crossings at the intersection of Morganton Road at Northview Drive and construction of a cul-de-sac on Dundee Road near Morganton Road.

The proposed “draft” municipal agreement from the NCDOT establishes maintenance of Dundee Road after construction. Total Funding amount $0

Issues/Analysis:

Dundee Road presents a safety concern due to its location to the proposed traffic signal. To alleviate this concern, Dundee Road will be modified with a cul-de-sac.  NCDOT will purchase Right of Way along Dundee Road, and the city will agree to maintain said Right of Way.

Budget Impact:

There is no impact to the General Fund.

Options

1)  Adopt the resolution authorizing the City Manager to execute the municipal agreements as presented.

2)  Do not adopt the resolution and provide further direction to staff.

Recommended Action::Recommended Action
