Goal I: The City of Fayetteville will be a safe and secure community

Executive Summary:

This item provides a briefing on the UNC Charlotte Urban Institute final findings from the Cost of Gun Violence Study. The study was conducted in Fayetteville to evaluate the costs associated with gun violence over a four-year period from 2021-2024.

Background:

During the February 6, 2023, City Council Work Session, Former Council Member Benavente requested a cost of gun violence study to help quantify the economic and societal costs associated with gun violence.  Consensus of Council was to move the request forward and ensure the study included input from health care providers, schools, and courts.

Issues/Analysis:

The UNC Charlotte Urban Institute team will provide a brief presentation and respond to questions from Council.  The full report has been included in the agenda packet.
