Relationship To Strategic Plan:
The City of Fayetteville will be a highly desirable place to live, work, and recreate.
Executive Summary:
NCDOT is requesting the City’s concurrence for their recommendation to reduce the speed limit from 55 mph to 45 mph on Raeford Road (US 401) from Bunce Road to just west of the Bentridge Lane/Old Raeford Road intersection. In order to the complete these changes, two municipal speed limit certificates will need to be repealed and two municipal speed limit certificates will need to be declared for the new limits of the 45 and 55 mph speed zones. NCDOT will post 45 mph and 55 mph signs at the locations where the speed limits change.
Background:
The existing speed limit on Raeford Road between Bunce Road and the intersection of Bentridge Lane/Old Raeford Road is 55 mph and NCDOT is proposing to reduce it to 45 mph.
Issues/Analysis:
NCDOT is requesting the City’s concurrence for the reduction in the speed limit on Raeford Road between Bunce Road and Bentridge Lane/Old Raeford Road intersection.
Budget Impact:

Options:
• Approve the municipal speed limit certificates
• Reject the municipal speed limit certificates and request additional information
Recommended Action:
Staff recommends Council move to approve the municipal speed limit certificates.
