Goal V: Sustainable Organizational Capacity
Executive Summary:
The purpose of this agenda item is to receive input from Council as to whether it is Council’s interest to proceed with the recall provisions.
Background:
At the April 2018 work session, Council directed staff to research recall provisions and bring the findings back to Council at the May 2018 work session for further discussion. At the May work session, Council directed staff to proceed with drafting legislation to add recall provisions to the City Charter. Council also directed that the legislation should require that the recall petition must bear the signatures of at least 15 percent of the registered voters to be a sufficient petition. The attached resolution reflects Council’s direction.
Issues/Analysis:
Whether to go forward with the legislation and place the resolution on a future agenda for adoption.
Budget Impact:
Unknown at this time.
Options:
1. Approve the proposed resolution and direct staff to transmit to the Cumberland County Local Delegation of the General Assembly.
2. Do not adopt the proposed resolution.
3. Provide additional direction to staff.
Recommended Action:
Staff recommends that Council provide direction to staff as to Council’s interest.
