Executive Summary:

The purpose of this agenda item is to consider adoption of an ordinance amending the City Charter to change the mode of electing the City Council to four-year terms upon approval of a referendum.

 

 

Background: 

At the May 2018 work session consensus was to move forward with four-year terms.  Pursuant to N.C.G.S. § 160A-102, on May 29, 2018, a public hearing was held to receive public input on changing the mode of electing the City Council from two-year terms to four-year terms.

 

 

Issues/Analysis: 

Whether to move forward with adopting the ordinance.

 

 

Budget Impact: 

Unknown at this time.

 

 

Options

1.                     Adopt the ordinance and resolution.

2.                     Do not adopt the ordinance and resolution.

3.                     Provide additional direction to staff.

 

 

 

Recommended Action: 

Staff recommends that Council provide direction to staff as to Council’s interest.
