Executive Summary:

NCDOT conducted a review of speed limit along Bailey Lake Road (State Road 1106) at the request of citizens in the area.  After review, NCDOT is recommending the speed limit be reduced from 45 mph to 35 mph along the length of Bailey Lake Road from Strickland Bridge Road to Bingham Drive (NC 162).  Based on this, NCDOT is requesting City Council concur with repeal of the existing 45 mph speed limit ordinance.  Once repealed the statutory 35 mph municipal speed limit will take effect.

 

 

Background: 

NCDOT received requests to review the speed limit along Bailey Lake Road from citizens in the area.  After review, NCDOT is recommending the speed limit be reduced to 35 mph between Strickland Bridge Road and Bingham Drive.

 

 

Issues/Analysis: 

NCDOT is requesting City Council repeal the municipal certificate for the existing 45 mph speed limit.  After repeal, the statutory 35 mph municipal speed limit will take effect upon erection of signs by NCDOT.

 

 

Budget Impact: 

There is no budget impact to the City for this item.

 

 

Options

•  Approve the repeal of the 45 mph speed limit certificate

•  Reject the repeal of the 45 mph municipal speed limit certificate and request additional information

 

 

Recommended Action: 

Staff recommends Council move to repeal the 45 mph speed limit certificate.
