Relationship To Strategic Plan:
This item supports all adopted City Council strategic goals and objectives.

Executive Summary:
Council adopted the 2024 State Action Plan on February 26 for the second year of the biennium. This state legislative agenda is representative of the Council priorities established some 18 months ago. As such, staff would like to discuss with Council any additional priorities for which to seek funding or policy support from the North Carolina General Assembly.

Background:
The City's state lobby team, CheckMate Government Solutions, helps shape and define Fayetteville's priorities while facilitating communication and coordination at the state level among elected officials and agency representatives.

The legislative session in 2024 is the "short session" of the biennium and is scheduled to convene on April 24 and adjourn on July 31. Staff work with the team from CheckMate to revise and prepare the state action agenda which is generally consistent with "long session" requests for consistency in communication with legislators. These priorities have been communicated previously to Members as the top needs of the City.

Following the conclusion of the 2024 Short Session, staff will initiate the process for development of the next biennium's legislative agenda.


Issues/Analysis:
Staff are seeking Council's input on any new topic areas for addition to the adopted state action plan for the 2024 short session. New items can be added or adjusted at any time given the interest of the General Assembly and the needs of the City.
