Executive Summary:
This grant opportunity aims to financially support existing summer camp programs offered by fire departments across North Carolina as they develop the next generation of firefighters and enhance community engagement and safety. This grant will develop and implement programs aimed at engaging youth in general life skills, public safety education, and emergency response training, while fostering their interest in firefighting or other public safety careers to help recruit the next generation of first responders.
Background:
The curriculum of the camp includes but is not limited to Community Emergency Response Team Basic Training Certification, Stop the Bleed, Hands-only CPR, teen depression and bullying, distracted teen driving, human trafficking, drugs and gangs, firearm safety, interacting with law enforcement, fire extinguisher training, financial awareness, and budgeting. The students participate in a fire department day where they are exposed to all the different pathways within the fire department. During the program, the students will also be exposed to multiple public safety career pathways.
